The Company

Pfeifer Science Associates is a scientific consulting firm which was founded in 1992 by Dr. Gary J. Linford and Dr. Shirley J. Pfeifer, each of whom has over 30 years of experience in optics and laser applications. Since its inception, the company has worked primarily on DoD and DoE projects, as well as cooperative efforts with several aerospace and biotechnology companies. The firm consists of experienced scientists and engineers from industry and academia who, as independent consultants, are located primarily in the western states. PfSA provides work package services in our areas of expertise for the following tasks:

PfSA also provides a rapid response capability for fast turnaround on technical issues and proposal review, such as assessment of trade tree options, top-level evaluation of technologies, and input to red team reviews.

Brief descriptions of our technical areas of expertise are listed on the "Expertise" page. Additional detail can be provided upon request using the "Contact Us" form or by e-mail at Lin4d@alum.mit.edu.

Operation

PfSA personnel are experienced in proposal writing for large DoD and DoE programs as well as smaller IR&D and SBIR projects. The founders and staff have extensive technical and line management experience, which ensures an understanding of the importance of adhering to schedule and cost requirements. All projects and work packages are tracked in-house using MS Project™ software in addition to any project schedules used by the customer. PfSA handles all administrative tasks and issues associated with projects including security clearances, patents and confidentiality agreements, accounting and cost estimates, and the development and maintenance of detailed project schedules.

Upon discussion and clarification of customer requirements, PfSA personnel will write a proposal for the job which includes a statement of work, project deliverables, list of tasks and task descriptions, hardware and software requirements, preliminary cost estimate, and preliminary project schedule. Experimental work may be conducted in PfSA facilities or at the customer's facilities. Typically, software development and design work is conducted at PfSA, although special requirements may dictate other arrangements.

Progress reports, including updated schedules for each task, will be provided monthly or at intervals consistent with customer requirements. Vugraph presentations will be prepared by PfSA staff, typically in MS Power Point™, and previewed by the customer. Presentations will be given by PfSA staff, via teleconferencing or in person, or by customer staff as required.
